Amos 1-5 reads as follows:

I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the Lord.

The consequences of disobedience run very deep. I believe sometimes it reflects upon others around us more than we think. God is the only one who knows exactly how to impact people the absolute best way possible. Pain and suffering bring a change that is often lasting compared to the mountaintops we experience. We are a selfish people and quickly forget that nothing is truly ours and that it all comes from God.

Keep Him in mind…

Why not take the day and remember the awesome ways of God? Pull up images online to see a huge mountain or a deep valley that has a wonderful natural waterfall. I think of Shoshone Falls when I think of amazing places God has created for the eye to be able to embrace. I was there many years ago and I remember a hole in the mountain I crawled through to reveal an immediate very deep valley on the other side. It caused my jaw to drop given there was no fence to block little ones from potentially falling.

Today it is as though our government is trying to play God and provide and put warning signs where once we did not need them. People are looking for ways to sue anyone they can and they use their own ignorance to blame others when not explicitly told not to do something. Yet God has explicitly told us key truths and shows regularly in His holy word and we continually choose to ignore. We ignore His wisdom and direction only to end up in trouble.

Oh but His mercy…

Still, His mercy flows so abundantly and He still loves us. Remember today you could be on your way to Hell. But by Jesus doing what He did for us by dying at Calvary and rising again the third day, we have a living Savior. Jesus Christ our Lord is He. Trust Him today like you never have before. Maybe He is calling you to do something for Him. Missionaries are passing away everyday and no one is filling their shoes. Maybe there is a mission field for you and God’s perfect will is for you to go.

Ask God to reveal as only He can for you. Ask to be in His will and not just doing what you want. That will ultimately be the most fulfilling time of your life. People will be changed and God will allow you to be used by Him to see others be free from their sin and live a joyful life as you are. When we follow Him and others follow us we are all following Jesus and amazing things will happen.
